Hamid Karzai (Pashto: حامد کرزی - Ḥāmid Karzay) (born 24 December 1957) is the 11th and President of Afghanistan taking office in December 7, 2004. He became a prominent political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001. In December 2001, Hamid Karzai became the Chairman of the Transitional Administration; subsequently he was Interim President from 2002 until he won the 2004 presidential election. Karzai is known for his trademark Karakul hat.
